I think I forgot to mention during the third week of summer vacation we hosted the Ladie's Clutch Summer Social at the farm. It was a good and relaxing time, highlight was everyone got to see a new baby calf being born! We enjoyed the beautiful evening around the campfire with smores.
We also checked out Matt's uncle's band "Takin the Fifth" in Galena on Saturday night with the kids and Evie, a friend of ours child too. Evie was the first one out on the dance floor, followed quickly by Aloysius and Willa. The three of them enjoyed themselves and we met up with my mom, Bob, and Sue and Stef.
Now week 4, midweek Willa, Louis and I left for a trip to California to visit Nick and his family. Yes, we left Matt and Aloysius home and at the farm. Although we missed them dearly, they had a great time back home with lots of activites and festivities planned and Willa got some awesome quality time in with her cousin Britta in California. This was 4th of July week: so Matt and Aloysius attended the annual Summer Birthday Bash at Murray's house on Frentress Lake. Aloysius particiapted in the 4th of July parade on the back of Murray's gator and even had a kayak ride with his cousin Elly. Some other fun things the boys did while we were gone were: celebrate with approximately 125 or so other Bernings for the Berning Reunion at the farm. (will post pic soon) I hear it was a beautiful time for all those who attended, as I am sure it was. The two also went for a boat ride with Matt's cousin, Nate. Aloysius enjoyed some one-on-one time with Grandma Next Door, which might be his all time favorite thing to do- next to riding the tractor and bobcat with dad.
As for us, we were joined in California by my mom, Aunt Sue and cousin, Audrey. During our visit we celebrated the 4th of July in Nick's beautiful and fun-filled neighbor hood. It was nice to get to meet Nick and Jackie's friends and neighbors and reacquaint ourselves with some of the others. The party was complete with a pefect climing slide and pool for the kids, snow cones, yummy adult beverages, and authentic mexican street tacos, good tunes, of course fireworks, and the cutest parade of red, white and blue decked out bikes, trikes, wagons and any other mode of transportation for kids ages 10 and under!
We also enjoyed boating while we were there a couple times, wakeboarding and tubing were the highlights. One more day on the wakeboard and I would have been a pro! We got to help Graham celebrate his 1st Birthday! We had lots of pool time, sun, and relaxing in the evening on Nick's patio out back. It was a very enjoyable trip. And as I said, earlier- the girls, Willa and Britta played nonstop from the morning Britta awoke to find Willa at her house to the night we left. They even took some of their naps together in Britta's twin bed!
